I’m a sports nut

I don’t know if it was being the first born and Dad expected a boy, raising 3 boys or just my nature but I love sports.  Football, baseball, basketball, hockey, Nascar (is it really a sport), the X games, even soccer and recently I’ve developed an interest in MMA fighting.  In case you don’t know what that is – it is Mixed Martial Arts fighting.  It’s kind of like college wrestling (not that goofy WWA stuff they show on Sunday, Sunday, Sunday) meets Tae Kwan Do, Judo, Karate and Boxing. Not many rules – no biting, hits to the groin, headbutts or spinal locks but pretty much anything else goes.

It started innocently enough, just watching whatever show my DH was watching but then it kinda grew on me.  I suppose it helped when my neighbor married an MMA fighter (Josh Hendricks) – who by the way is the nicest, most Christian man you could ever meet – and they have the cutest baby ever (except for my grandson).  Over the last few years, we’ve watched the ebb and flow of his career and he just signed a UFC contract to fight Assuerio Silva in July.

But I digress, Josh promoted a new feature at The Barley House in Akron last night – The Barley Brawl. Reserved seating to watch amateur fighters beat the crap out of each other – awesome!  I know it’s so sick but what can I say? The only bad thing about watching this kind of fighting is that is it not really conducive to knitting!

Turn out was pretty good – standing room only for the general admission and all of the reserved tables were filled. Not sure but I believe they will start putting these on the first Thursday of every month – more to follow.
